Equitable briefing practices

Legal Aid Queensland endorses the Law Council of Australia's equitable briefing policy, and is committed to implementing strategies to support this policy and improve the briefing practices of all Legal Aid Queensland service providers in regards to female barristers.

To support the policy the following strategies have been implemented to improve briefing  practices of all Legal Aid Queensland service providers regarding the briefing of female barristers including:

  • adopting briefing targets
  • monitoring briefing practices
  • amending the case management standards to reiterate the emphasis on briefing female barristers
  • reviewing preferred supplier agreements regarding briefing practices for external service providers
  • reporting briefing practices through our annual report.

A list of female barristers and their areas of practice can be found on the Bar Association of Queensland's website (use the advanced search option to search by gender) and the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland
