If Legal Aid Queensland is unable to provide advice to an client due to a conflict of interest, the client will be referred to an external practitioner to provide advice on behalf of Legal Aid Queensland.
When a conflict of interest is identified the client will be given a conflict letter by the front counter staff along with the names of three local solicitors from whom they may seek advice.
At the advice session the client must provide the practitioner with the conflict letter. After the advice session the practitioner must complete the claim section of the letter and submit it to their local legal aid office for assessment.
The current rate payable for providing legal advice is detailed scale of fees.
Practitioners who provide advice to clients who have been deemed “confidential” must submit their claims to the Brisbane office, these claims will be assessed by an officer delegated to deal with confidential matters.
