Agents
A grant of aid may be available to brief an agent if Legal Aid Queensland considers it is a more economical use of legal aid funds to engage the agent than to have the assigned practitioner perform the work.
Where aid has not been provided for an agent but the practitioner chooses to engage an agent, any costs associated with briefing the agent (such as photocopying fees) are not claimable from Legal Aid Queensland.
Audit requirements
As grants of aid in family and civil law matters are based on hourly fees, any agent engaged should provide the instructing solicitor with a breakdown of the number of hours engaged and this must be retained on the practitioner’s file to substantiate claims.
