Independent Children’s Lawyer (ICL) Nuts and Bolts training - 23 February 2024
Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) is holding the next Independent Children’s Lawyer (ICL) Nuts and Bolts training on Friday, 23 February 2024. Please see attached flyer(PDF, 201KB) with registration details.
The training is designed for ICLs who have joined LAQ’s ICL sub-panel in the last 3 years or who want to apply to join LAQ’s ICL sub-panel. Experienced ICLs are also invited to attend.
The training will provide practical skills to help practitioners with ICL files. It will also be an opportunity to network and share knowledge and information with the aim of cultivating best practice service delivery as ICLs.
The training will include:
- General ICL panel information, application process and LAQ’s complaints process
- Grants of aid for ICLs
- How the ICL can help the court and children in family law proceedings – a practical guide
- Domestic and family violence informed practice
- Working with report writers
- Practical skills around engaging with co-located child safety officers and Queensland Police Service
A full program will be distributed to registered attendees.
Completion of this training is a pre-requisite for an application to join LAQ’s ICL sub-panel. LAQ conducts a suitability assessment process for each application for inclusion on the ICL sub-panel.
