Preferred supplier update — July 2023

This month:

First Nations Conference

Legal Aid Queensland recently hosted its second First Nations Staff Conference at the Brisbane office. First Nations staff from across Queensland attended.

The conference delivered unique learning and networking experiences for First Nations employees by providing training on these key focus areas:

  • raising awareness of the challenges and vulnerabilities experienced by our First Nations clients
  • the work journey of another First Nations employee
  • service delivery and practice points
  • wellbeing and safety
  • empowering First Nations employees to celebrate their culture in the workplace.

Over the course of the conference, internal employees and external guests delivered valuable presentations, including:

  • Joseph Briggs, Assistant Public Defender, gave an excellent talk on coerced false confessions.
  • Maria Watson-Trudgett, Cultural Consultant & Aboriginal Artist, provided a celebration of culture and championed cultural integrity in the workplace.
  • Anoushka Dowling, Provisional Psychologist, talked about the importance of psychological safety and wellbeing in the workplace.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity for First Nations staff to develop and grow together.
