Preferred supplier update — June 2023

This month:

Proposed family law legislative reforms

In May, National Legal Aid (NLA) issued a joint statement with Women’s Legal Services Australia supporting the Family Law Amendment Bill 2023 currently before the Federal Parliament. The Family Law Amendment Bill is based on recommendations made by the Australian Law Reform Commission’s Inquiry into the Family Law System which involved extensive consultation with a wide range of experts.

LAQ has also contributed to a submission to the committee on the Family Law Amendment Bill 2023. The Bill would amend the Family Law Act 1975 to help ensure the best interests of children are prioritised and placed at the centre of the family law system. The bill would also make consequential amendments to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Act 2021. Information about the Bill is available at Family Law Amendment Bill 2023 – Parliament of Australia (aph.gov.au).
