Our community legal education (CLE) program educates the community about legal issues. It also helps community, workers, community lawyers and financial counsellors to access legal services for their clients.

Acknowledgement of Country

Legal Aid Queensland acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work, the Jagera and Turrbal people, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Blurred Borders Queensland update

Blurred Borders Queensland story cards.

It’s been a huge year for our Blurred Borders training program!

Our trainers have delivered 66 training sessions to over 550 workers from Thursday Island through to the Gold Coast. We have distributed more than 420 kits to staff at Aboriginal health services, community justice groups, First Nations organisations, community organisations, government agencies and universities. We also co-designed and delivered tailored Blurred Borders training sessions for justice sector agencies with more training requests rolling in for 2025.

Thank you to everyone who has come along to a Blurred Borders training session. We’re pretty passionate about the Blurred Borders resources so it’s wonderful to see so many of you are avid supporters of the resources as well. Finally, a big thank you to our wonderful, dedicated trainers Edwina, Neil, Sue and Anthony for helping so many workers feel confident in using the story cards with their clients. Our trainers have other roles at Legal Aid Queensland, either in CLE, engagement, or client liaison, so we appreciate them taking on Blurred Borders training on top of their existing workload. It really is a passion project for all of us.

What’s on for 2025

We listened to your feedback! From early 2025 our story card sets will be available to purchase separately. This is a great cost-effective option if you need a few more sets of cards but don’t need the whole kit again.

We are also developing special training sessions to show you how to use the story cards for specific legal issues eg coercive control and applying to change bail conditions.

Legal Aid Queensland sells the kits just to cover our printing costs.

Would you like us to deliver a free training session to your colleagues or attend one of your staff meetings to talk about the Blurred Borders kits? Please get in touch by emailing cle@legalaid.qld.gov.au

In the community

It was great to get out into the community this year and talk to workers and community members about our services and how we can help with a range of legal problems. NAIDOC Week, Homeless Connect, Child Protection Week, disaster recovery, community fun days and financial literacy events were just some of community events we attended this year.

CLE Collaboration Fund opens in March 2025

The fund supports CLE projects in the legal assistance sector that promote collaboration between legal assistance and community support services.

Videos, podcasts, websites, workshops, publications and community engagement are some of the resources and activities that have been funded to help people identify legal problems early, understand their legal rights and how to access legal help when they need it.

The CLE Collaboration Fund will open for applications on Monday 10 March 2025 with grants up to $30,000 (ex GST) per project available.

The fund guidelines and application form will be published on the Legal Aid Queensland website in February 2025.
