ABORIGINAL and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders can access free legal information on common family, criminal and civil law issues when Legal Aid Queensland staff attend NAIDOC Week celebrations in Brisbane this week.

Held from July 5–12, NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, raises awareness of Indigenous issues and highlights the range of services available to Indigenous people.

Legal Aid Queensland will have an information booth at the Musgrave Park Family Fun Day in South Brisbane, on Friday July 10, from 9am to 3pm. All Queenslanders are welcome to come along and find out more about our services.

Legal Aid Queensland CEO Anthony Reilly said NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness about culturally appropriate legal services available to Indigenous Queenslanders in Queensland.

'Legal Aid Queensland has 14 offices across the state and is here to help the community with their legal problems,' Mr Reilly said.

'Our staff also visit the Cape, Gulf and western areas of north Queensland to ensure regional and remote Queenslanders can access our services.

'By calling our Indigenous Infoline on 1300 650 143 (for the cost of a local call), people can get free legal information and advice about their legal problem. We can also put people in touch with other services in their local area.'

The Legal Aid Queensland website (www.legalaid.qld.gov.au) also has a lot of useful information on common legal issues.
