New guide helps people respond to domestic violence protection order applications
Date 30 June 2022
A new guide from Legal Aid Queensland is helping people respond to domestic violence protection order applications by answering common questions and explaining legal phrases and words.
Responding to a domestic violence order application, available for free on the Legal Aid Queensland website, helps to demystify the court process by providing information about people’s options in court and explaining the conditions the court may impose.
Family Law Services principal lawyer Fionna Fairbrother said Legal Aid Queensland provided legal help to thousands of people experiencing violence, abuse and control in their relationships each year.
“It’s important that we help all people to understand their legal rights and options, assist them to understand the conditions imposed by the court and ensure they know how to get help,” Ms Fairbrother said.
“Our team has put together a practical, easy to understand guide which explains options such as consent and adjournment, gives examples of possible conditions, explains if an order can lead to a criminal record and provides a handy contact list for support services.
You can read, download or order a free copy of the guide from the Legal Aid Queensland website: https://www.legalaid.qld.gov.au/
